Dysautonomia

Dysautonomia, a dysfunction within the autonomic system, affects our vital functioning. The sympathetic and parasympathetic systems control our heart rate, blood pressure, breathing, and even digestive functioning. Our sympathetic system, or our “fight or flight” response, tends to be over activated causing many problems. Some related conditions include POTS, chronic fatigue, and constipation. Using the “3-Systems” approach, specialized physical therapy treatments specifically target problematic areas. Physical therapy treatments include Myokinesthetics, vestibular training, and medical graded exercise programs.

Also, a physical therapist will create a “Foundational” program to begin the slow progression towards improving activity tolerance. These medical graded programs help regulate the systems by improving balance, awareness, stability, and compensation. In addition, consistency with long term exercise programs lead to longer lasting results.
